What to expect in Therapy

Talking about our problems is perhaps the single most important thing we can do when it comes to solving them. But even when we try to talk to a partner, family or friends, we often feel like we’re not being heard.

That doesn’t mean that those people aren’t listening; it can often mean that they just don’t have the skills that are required to provide help. That can add frustration to the things that are already plaguing us.

I’ve got time for you, I’m ready to listen to you and you can be assured that I will hear you.

I will help guide you through the areas of life that are causing you distress and I’ll give you strategies that will help you relieve your stress and anxiety.

How I work

Counselling works best when provided regularly, usually once a week.

We can either meet in person at my office in Camarthen or virtually, on Google Meet, WhatsApp or FaceTime. My office provides a safe and cosy atmosphere where you can feel relaxed, safe and supported. But if  you'd prefer to have our meetings online, you have the choice of meeting me wherever is convenient for you.

It is important that wherever you choose, you are happy that your environment is safe and confidential.  Each session will last 50 minutes, during which time we'll work collaboratively to help you overcome your troubles.

In addition to working with adult individuals I also work with adolescents age 14 and above. Teenagers were hit very hard with the restrictions caused by the covid pandemic, and many young people are still suffering the aftermath. My fee is £60 per 50 minute session for individuals.

I provide relationship counselling for couples and individuals. Couples' sessions are slightly longer at 75 minutes so the rates for couples' counselling are different at £75.

I use integrative counselling modalities, working from a person centred foundation. To you, that means you are the sole focus of our work. What's best for you and what works for you. I am 100% client led in my practice. I'll give you the space you need to tell your story and as you do that, we'll work together to resolve the problems that have been plaguing you.

My practice is relational,  the therapeutic relationship that exists between counsellor and client is paramount to achieving the positive outcome you're looking for. It will require both of us to build and nurture that relationship to be sure you'll get the most you can from our couselling sessions.

My techniques have been proved to work for issues such as:

  • Anxiety
  • Stress
  • Trauma including sexual trauma
  • Grief and loss
  • Autism
  • ADHD
  • Obsessive compulsive disorders
  • Domestic abuse
  • Sexual abuse
  • Unresolved historic abuse

Jonathan is a warm and caring soul, he cares deeply for his clients and endeavours to help support them in gaining the best possible outcome from their sessions. His warmth and empathy create a healing atmosphere whereby clients can truly grow.
