Therapy and Counselling for Entertainment Professionals
Artists and other creatives do what we do because it's a part of who we are, we don't have a choice. But few people realise the extent of the additional stresses that go along with being an industry professional until they're actually in it.
Things such as:
- The responsibilities of being self employed
- Fluctuating income
- Artistic or personal differences with collaborators
- Creative deadlines
- Writer's block
- Loss of creative control
- Coping with highs and lows
- Boredom and addiction
- Conflicting schedules
- Touring
- Being away from home and family
- Long working days and nights
- Working unsocial hours
- Maintaining your privacy
- Maintaining personal relationships
These things are not not what we signed up for, and it can often feel like there's little to no support with any of it.
I understand how it feels and I can give you the tools to cope.
I spent 30 years working as a proessional musician, producer, radio presenter, sound engineer, chief cook and bottle washer! The higher up the ladder I got, the more pressure there was.
I know that the entertainment industry has a lot more to it than the bit we present to the audience. I understand the unique stresses that go along with living life as an artist, whether that means carving out a living as a professional, or living your passion as an amateur or semi-pro.
The creative mind is wired differently to other people right from the start. We see the world differently, often quite innocently. We move in a world of artistic beauty that can sometimes be quite removed from reality. And when reality hits, it hits hard. I can help you navigate that and help resolve the issues that can sometimes arise between art and the every-day.
Having a creative outlook can also affect your relationships. It’s no one’s fault, but it can be difficult to navigate. I can help with you that. Likewise, things might be difficult at work, with coworkers perhaps even bullying you for being a “rock star.” There are plenty of other potential stressors that go along with being a creative too, I know, I've experienced them myself.
It’s not easy being a creative, and most people just don't get it. I do, and I will support you.
